Ministry Update and Free Book Offer
Today I am in Mexico City speaking to pastors from the Evangelical Covenant Church about spiritual abuse. I am also releasing the Spanish edition of my book Broken Trust (Una Confianza Rota) for free on Amazon Kindle. It is free February 11-15 (Saturday - Wednesday).
Who Knew What God Would Do?
It’s so interesting to me how ministry opportunities arise. Who knew ten years ago that I would be helping people overcome spiritual abuse and be ministering in Spanish speaking countries? I sure didn’t!
Overcoming Spiritual Abuse
I wrote the book, Broken Trust, as a result of some friends of mine whose church was taken off the rails by a wayward pastor. I had no idea that it would hit a nerve and be on the forefront of what is now a growing genre of books on spiritual abuse and deconstructing faith. I was just trying to help some friends recover from their wounds.
With no marketing, Broken Trust has become one of the leading books in this field. That’s why I just released it in Spanish as well as in audio on Audible.com. I’m especially hopeful for the impact in Spanish speaking countries because they are increasingly becoming aware of the problem. Just like Broken Trust was on the leading edge in this country, I hope it will do the same in Spanish speaking countries.
By the way, if you would like a free copy of the audiobook, Broken Trust, let me know. I have a few free codes to offer in exchange for a review on Audible.com.
New Friends in New Places
My involvement in Latin and South America came from my sabbatical eight years ago. I visited churches throughout Chile and out of that time came long standing friendships and connections, especially in Antofagasta and Calama, Chile. One of my friends (pastor David Costa) offered to translate Broken Trust into Spanish for me. What a gift!
My associate/translator/guide in Chile was from Mexico (Alejandra Ibarra) and we have remained close to her throughout the years, visiting her church on a regular basis and increasingly the churches in Mexico City.
My Time in Mexico City
The retreat that I’m at today features a speaker addressing violence and trauma in the church. My role is to address pastors to help them see how they can lead churches that are safe and healing. Please pray for me and these pastors.
After the pastor retreat, my wife and I will remain in Mexico City for five weeks to teach at a school of discipleship called Acts29. It’s a three month intensive class for twentysomethings who want to grow their faith before heading out into their careers.
What Might God Do Through You?
I mention all of this as an update on what I’m doing but it will hopefully open your eyes to what God can do in your life. Whatever you are doing today may have little to do with what you will be doing in ten years. God is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ever hope or ask for!
