Forgiveness Takes Your Sin Away

I'm continuing a series on God's forgiveness adapted from my e-book "Forgiven...once and for all". I dedicate my blog to helping people reclaim their life. I'm convinced that the reclamation process starts when you receive God's forgiveness. It wipes your slate clean and enables you to make a fresh start.ForgivenessI try not to get into too much Bible study in my blog. I realize not everyone may read it for for that. But the Bible makes such a powerful case for our forgiveness that I have to share a few verses with you today. In my last post I quoted the Bible contrasting Jesus with Old Testament priests.

Jesus Takes Away Our Sin

Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. Hebrews 10:11

Notice what it says...the animal sacrifices could never take away our sins. But the minute John the Baptist saw Jesus, look what he said:

Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. John 1:29

John immediately knew that Jesus' sacrifice would take away our sin. The Bible uses this same phrase in another place:

When you were dead in your sins and in … your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it awaynailing it to the cross. Colossians 2:13,14

Don't Drag Your Sin Back

Jesus takes our sin away but some of us drag it back. Have you ever had a dog drag something gross back that you threw away? I've had that happen. The crazy thing is, the dog was so proud of what he did. He felt so smart to have found what I threw away.  He sat there with this gross thing in our yard expecting my praise and I'm like, YOU ARE SO STUPID!  Get that out of here!

Forgiveness Gives You A Fresh Start

That’s what some of us do with our sin. Jesus took our sin and we drag it back, somehow feeling spiritual for doing it. That’s got to change.  It's not spiritual. God wants you to let it go. It’s time to stop beating yourself up and let God's forgiveness give you a fresh start.Question: What's keeping you from letting Jesus take away your sin for good? Leave your comment below.
